The ancient Kandy - Mahiyangana road,
constructed by the British colonials, is being reconstructed
after a lapse of 150 years. Sri Lankans used this road in
the past to reach Mahiyangana sacred site where the Buddha
is believed to have visited. Anecdotes relate that devotees,
when they visited Mahiyangana through this road, used to
hand over all their property and belongings to their
children as it was a very difficult and unsafe journey. Here
is an aerial view of the road being reconstructed. Picture
