Uva Udanaya to benefit 32,000 people

The Uva Udanaya electricity project will benefit 32,000 people in the Moneragala District revealed Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka. This will enable 75 percent population in the area to consume electricity which was 68 percent earlier. The minister said so at a rural electricity progress review meeting in the Moneragala district.

Accordingly, with aid from the Chinese Government, 150 new sub power stations are being installed while the rest are being carried out by the Power and Energy Ministry. Further, 700 existing low energy power stations are to be further developed.

A new customer service centre is to be set up in Thanamalwila. Assistance in the form of a bank loan of Rs 30000 will be provided to low income group families through the Samurdi Banks to enable them to obtain electricity supply through the "Viduly Athwela" project. A new project under the theme "Shrama Shakthi" is to be launched next year to provide electricity to people who live in distant areas.
