Dewmini, Ranuli in U-9 final

Dewmini Gallage and Ranuli Wimalarathna qualified for the girls under-9 final of the 22nd Junior National Squash Championship at the Tamil Union Cricket Club squash complex yesterday.

An exciting game was showcased in the second semi final between Ranuli and Andrea Halaldeen when the match continued to four sets as the winner faced a shock defeat in the first set (7/11).

Ranuli comfortably won the second set (11/6) but received a tough challenge in the third set where she edged out Andrea after stiff contest (12/10). Andrea had to step down at the end as Ranuli fought with all her skills during the fourth set (11/3) to book her place in the Saturday’s final. Dewmini found no difficulty in beating Lisumi Rasanya in the fist semi final to qualify for the final (11/4,11/1,11/1).

Semi finals of the boys’ under-9 event will work off tomorrow at 5.00p.m. H.Costa meets M. I. F. Asmon and Dulain De Silva plays against Sadeesha Rajapakshe in the semis.
