Football legend seeks help
Football legend T F Samath has been diagnosed as having renal failure
on both of his kidneys. Nephrologists have recommended a kidney
transplant to save his life.
The public can help procure a kidney donor with the O positive blood
group to help expedite his cause.

Annual get-together
The Annual get-together and the social of the Past Pupils' Fellowship
of Methodist High School Moratumulla, Moratuwa (1939-1969 Student Group)
will be held at the Golden Carriage Hotel, St Joseph' Street Uyana
Moratuwa on October 23 at 9 a.m.
Presentation on elephant conservation
The American Centre, Colombo will hold a presentation on conservation
of Elephants and mitigating the Human-Elephant conflict on October 24 at
4pm at American Centre, Colombo. The Speaker will be Dr Prithiviraj
Fernando, will be linked via digital video conference to American
Corners in Kandy and Jaffna.
Public lecture
The American Centre will present a Public Lecture on prevention of
accidents and first aid by Ms M Pushpa R Zoyza Training Coordinator,
Disaster Management and Triage Team Leader, Accident and Emergency
Department, National Hospital, Colombo.
It will be held on October 20 at 3pm at the American Centre
Auditorium. Target audience will be schoolchildren, youth and university
students, media and any other interested parties.
It will be linked via DVC to American Corners in Kandy and Jaffna.
Tagore commemoration
Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo will hold performances of Prabhu Amar
Priyo Amar, a combination of Manipuri and Kathak dance forms, in
Colombo, Galle, Kandy and Jaffna from November 22 to 28. The Colombo
performance will take place at 6.30 p.m. at the Bishops College
Auditorium, Perahera Mw., Colombo 3 on November 22. Performances of
Prabhu Amar Priyo Amar, the dance drama are based on Shaap Mochan
written by Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore.
Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore had a fairly strong association
with Sri Lanka and his three visits to Sri Lanka in 1922, 1928 and 1934,
left an abiding imprint. His last visit in 1934 was perhaps the one
which left the deepest impact. Apart from laying the foundation of
Sripalee in Horona, Tagore also presented a dance drama ‘Shaapmochan”,
in Colombo in which he himself played a role.
The dance-drama was so popular that it was extended to three
performances in Colombo, and another three performances in Jaffna.
Hospital opening

The Amban government hospital that was temporarily functioning at
Kudathanai has been refurbished and will be opened for public use
tomorrow.
The Malaysian government has funded the programme. The hospital has
an out patients dispensary, maternity ward and quarters for doctors and
nurses, said Northern region health director Dr A Ketheeswaran.
