Referring to a comment made by UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe that the people have sent warning signals to the government through the Local Government election, the UPFA General Secretary said that the UPFA gained control of 21 out of 23 Local Government bodies among which a number of Local Government bodies that had been held by the UNP for decades.

He said that a series of elections held during the past few years have shown that the chances of the government in the CMC area have increased tremendously.

Minister Premajayantha said that the UPFA gained control of all Local Government bodies in the Hambantota District which is represented by UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa.

The UPFA polled 77,084 votes from the CMC area as against 57,158 votes received in LG election in 2006.
