'The message said former Minister Karunathilake entered the
legislature in the 1970s with the overwhelming support of the people of
the Galle district and became the Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils
and State Minister for Provincial Councils, District Minister for Galle
and held a number of Cabinet portfolios such as Plantation Industries
Minister and Ports and Shipping Minister.
'He brought honour to the country by showing utmost dedication and
commitment during the time he was attached to the diplomatic service.
'He earned plaudits from the people countrywide particularly the
people of Galle.
'The late Karunathilake as a parliamentary colleague was very
cooperative and although we clashed within the legislature in connection
with issues of the people and the country, these were forgotten outside
where we became close friends. "I express my deepest sympathy to his
widow Kethumathi Karunathilake and children Amal, Sanjeewa, Sangeetha,
relations and friends over the death of former minister Karunathilake"
May he attain supreme bliss of Nirvana, the President said. |
