Lecture on classical music
Lecture on the Character of Carnatic Classical Music and Launch of
Music Club by Eminent Carnatic Musician Shri T M Krishna followed by
screening of a documentary film on him "Margazhi Raagam" will be held at
the Indian Cultural Centre on October 5 at 6 pm.
Vidvan T.M. Krishna is at the forefront of classical vocalists in
India today and is known in the musical world as a classicist. His
tremendous stage presence, his awe-inspiring voice, his great
scholarship and his ability to transcend cultural borders makes him the
greatest ambassador of Carnatic classical music.
He has toured the world widely and has recived numerous awards from
many leading organisations.
He contributes to Carnatic music in numerous ways other than
performing.
He has started and is involved in many organisations whose work
spreads across the whole spectrum of Carnatic music including, research,
archival and documentations, taking Carnatic music to various parts of
society and to smaller towns and villages, conducting festivals focussed
at the youth, supporting artists from rural south India who need
opportunities to widen their horizons and spotting youth talent and
giving them opportunities. He conducts creativity workshops for
corporate sector and lectures in various organisations like IIM
Bangalore, IIT Madras, CII, and Harvard University.
He is an author who has co authored "Voices Within" a book dedicated
to some of the greats of Carnatic music and contributes regularly to
various journals and newspapers. He has also always been in the
forefront to raise very many sensitive issues that affects Carnatic
music over many years.
NFC programmes for Dayata Kirula 2012
The National Film Corporation had organized a number of film
screenings, discussions, seminars and workshops to go in parallel with
Dayata Kirula 2012.The programme schedule is as follows:

October 7 (8.30 am) - Cinema entertainment programme for school

Interschool photography exhibition:
The opening of the interschool competition and exhibition of
photography 'Thinerooprabha' will be held on October 7 at the Auditorium
of the Vishaka Vidyalaya Sapugaskanda.
'Thinerooprabha' is a massive exhibition which includes photographs
on various themes 'clicked' by students representing most districts of
Sri Lanka. These exhibits were judged by a panel of highly experienced
photographers in the field.
Chief Guest of this event will be Jayantha Chandrasiri, a prominent
film-maker and theatre director and D L Padmaseelee, Principal of the
Sapugaskanda Vishaka Vidyalaya with Educational Directors of the zone.
Book Launch
Damayanthi Jayakody's latest book Gauthama Buddha Charithaya was
launched at Dayawansa Jayakody Company, New York, United States
recently. Here the author hands over the first copy to New York Buddhist
temple Viharadhipathi Ven Kurunegoda Piyathissa Nayake Thera, Ven
Pitigala Gunarathana, Ven Heenbunne Kondanna, Ven Hungampola
Sirirathana, Ven Okkampitiye Pragnarathana, publisher Dayawansa Jayakody
and Uditha Jayakody participated in the launching ceremony. |
