Appeal for Pakistan's flood victims

Floods have ravaged Pakistan once again this year after the massive floods that caused mayhem and devastation last year. The Sindh Province of Pakistan has faced the major brunt of this natural calamity that has claimed large number of precious lives and affected over 6 million people, destroyed crops and livestock in thousands have been lost away indiscriminately. In addition, severe damage has been caused to infrastructure, homes, hospitals, schools and many other installations.

The floods have fully damaged 539,899 houses. Another 848,412 houses have suffered partial damage. Almost 80,000 livestock have been washed away by flood waters in Sindh. Badin, Tharparkar, Sanghar and Nawabshah are the worst affected areas.

The Sri Lanka Pakistan Friendship Association joins hands with the High Commission of Pakistan in Sri Lanka, to make an urgent appeal to all our friendly and grateful Sri Lankan brothers and sisters, the public sector, the corporates and other well-wishers to join us in showing our solidarity, friendship and gratitude to a country and its people who have always stood by us in our own times of crisis and helped us in so many ways. 'We make this appeal with the confidence and trust that we have our inborn ability and willingness to help. 'All monetary contributions can be deposited in Pakistan High Commission's Special Account titled Prime Ministers Relief Fund 2011 at the Habib Bank Ltd, Colombo 11.

In the alternative, donations in kind of the following items (which are very urgently required) may be delivered at the High Commission premises at 53/6, Gregory's Road, Colombo 07 in coordination with -

High Energy Biscuits, Family Tents (both normal as well as winterized), Blankets, Mosquito Nets, Water Purification Equipment, Water Purification Tablets, Medicines, Toiletries- soaps (bathing & laundry), toothpaste, toothbrushes etc, Water Containers, basins, buckets, etc, De-watering pumps and Fuel Tanks are among the items needed.
