Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association
president Captain Patrick Jayasinghe pinned the first poppy
flower on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees
yesterday to commemorate National Poppy Day which falls on
November 13. The Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association
organizes an annual Poppy flower sale to mark Poppy Day.

A ceremony to distribute financial
assistance and equipment among temples in difficult areas
lacking infrastructure facilities was held under the
patronage of Prime Minister D M Jayaratne near the Ruwanweli
Seya in Anuradhapura on Sunday. This was organised by
Colombo Gangaramadhipathi Ven Galaboda Gnannissara Thera.
Here the Prime Minister handing over a donation to a
Viharadhipathi. Ven. Galaboda Gnannissara Thera who
initiated the programme is also in the picture. Most Ven
Udugama Buddharakkhita Mahanayaka thera of the Asgiriya
Chapter was also present. |

Hambantota district Parliamentarian
Namal Rajapaksa participated in a walk in Pettah to support
the candidature of Jihan Hameed who is contesting for the
Colombo Municipal Council from the UPFA ticket. |

UPFA Colombo Municipal Council
mayoral candidate Milinda Moragoda met members of the Sports
Club of Colombo North recently. He told the participants
that he first entered politics to see if he could make a
difference but that it was not easy in the polarized society
that Sri Lanka had become. Here, Moragoda during discussions

Livestock and Rural Community
Development Minister Arumugam Thondaman recently opened the
information and communication unit of the Animal Production
and Health Department. Thirteen double cabs were also
distributed among the Animal Production and Health
Provincial Department. The minister was presented the book
tilted Manual for Artificial Inseminators in two languages;
Sinhala and Tamil by Dr. Vijitha Bandara and the book,
Animal Breeding Policy Guideline and Strategies for Sri
Lanka by DAPH Director General Dr. W.K de Silva. |
