Girl's honesty praised

The honesty and integrity of a Grade Seven girl, Mohanapriya of Odusuddan Maha Vidyalaya came in for great accolades in the school she studied and in the village she lives in. The girl stumbled on a wallet on her way to school. She opened it and found gold and money inside and took it to the nearby People's Bank manager and gave the wallet to him.

The manager of the bank took the girl to her school and related what had happened to the principal. The principal summoned an assembly and Mohanapriya was hailed as the Paragon of honesty by the school community.

Speaking at the assembly the principal said "Mohanapriya came from a poor family. But the lure of gold did not corrupt her honest mind", amidst applause.


Buddhist talk

Dr Kosala de Silva will deliver a public talk in English on 'Anangana Sutta' at the meeting of the Servants of the Buddhist Society on October 1 at 4.30 p.m. At Maithree Hall, Lauries Road, Bambalapitiya.


Monthly lecture

The 33rd monthly lecture of the National Trust of Sri Lanka will be held at the institute of Construction Training and Development, 'Savsiripaya', 123 Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7 on September 29 at 6.30 pm. The lecture is open to the public.

This lecture is organised by the National Trust - Sri Lanka which conducts monthly lectures on the last Thursday of each month information could be obtained from the Trust Office at the Post Graduate Institute of Archaeology, 407, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7 or 2682730, 3091275.


AGM

The 40th Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Republic of Korea Association will be held on October 12 at 5.00 pm followed by a cultural show and dinner at Rooftop Restaurant, Ceylinco House, Colombo 1. Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Jongmoon Choi will be the chief guest. Prof Daya Edirisinghe will preside.


 Dr A M A Azeez birth centenary oration

The Dr A M A Azeez Birth Centenary Oration will be held on Tuesday, October 4 at 4.30 pm at Ghaffoor Hall, Zahira College, Colombo 10.

Dr Azeez was the first Muslim Civil Servant; one time Principal of Zahira College, Colombo; Senator; Founder for the YMMA and the Ceylon Muslim Scholarship Fund.

Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem will deliver the Centenary Oration on "Post Colonial Identity Dilemma of Sri Lanka Muslims".

The meeting will be chaired by the President of Dr A M A Azeez Foundation S H M Jameel and YMMA National President Nadvi Bahaudeen.

A reprint of the book 'West Reappraised' written by Dr Azeez will be released on the occasion. It is open to the public.


Blood donation

The Alubomulla Lions Club has organized a blood donation campaign and medical clinic on October 01 at Mahavila Vidyalaya from 9 am to 3.30 pm.

Free distribution of spectacles, Diabetic, Cholesterol, Ovarian Cancer and Breast Cancer clinics will be conducted by specialist doctors.


Ridma Rata

The Ridma Rata show which is presented by the student of Panadura Geetanjalee Kala Ashrama conducted by dancing teacher Asha Geetanjalee Wickremasingha of Vissaka Balika Vidyalaya Colombo will be staged on October 2 at Ummul Maleesha Hall, Panadura, Keselwatta.

Ports and Aviation Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Aesthetic University Professor Podi Bandara and Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo Principal Sandamali Aviruppola will be the chief guests.
