Bus strike called off

The private bus strike launched by operators on the Dehiwala-Maharagama (119) bus route since Monday was called off.

Lanka Private Bus Owners Association's (PBOA) President Gemunu Wijeratne said the strike was launched to protest against the relocation of the Maharaganma private bus stand by the Maharagama Urban Council. Following discussions with the PBOA, the Maharagama Urban Council agreed to accommodate bus operators.

He said after the strike, the services have been resumed by noon yesterday.

Meanwhile, a Maharagama Urban Council Spokesman said the reason for this relocation is a planned expansion of the road.
