Undergrads to take the 'Lead'

Senior undergraduates of state universities will undergo comprehensive leadership training, covering all aspects of leadership, including the entrepreneurial, administrative sectors, Secretary to the Higher Education Ministry Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne said. The Higher Education Ministry will conduct this training programme as the second phase of the leadership training under the theme 'Lead'.

The first Lead programme will commence today at the Uva Wellassa University under the patronage of Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake. Earlier, the leadership training programme was conducted for freshers who will enter the university system next month.

Around 22,000 students successfully underwent the leadership training programme prior to this and entered universities.

University Grant Commission Chairman Gamini Samaranayake said that, around 500 students will undergo the five day Lead programme as the first batch. It has scheduled to conducted many five-day Lead programmes after that. Based on the huge demand received for the leadership training programme, the Lead programme was concerned, he said.
