Solis Mendis award for Dee-Ga Somapala
All Ceylon Buddhist Congress has decided to confer Solis Mendis
honorary award for the year 2011 to Dee-Ga Somapala, the famous painter.

This award was given on September 26 at the Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi
Literary Awarding ceremony, B H William Hall of the All Ceylon Buddhist
Congress, at the Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo.
This ceremony which is presided over by the most reverend, Udugama
Saddharmakeerthi, Sri Dhammadassi, Buddharakkithbidana, Mahanayaka Thera
of Asgiriya chapter of the Shiyomopale Vansikha Mahanikaya and with the
participation as the Chief guest, of Hon D M Jayaratne Prime Minister
and the Minister of Buddhist Affairs.
This award is made to Dee-Ga Somapala for the incomparable service
rendered to Buddhist paintings, for a period of 25 years.
The President of All Ceylon Buddhist Congress Jagath Sumathipala says
this award is named after the painter Solis Mendis who revolutionalised
the temple frescoes including that of the Kelaniya Temple. This is once
a life time award. Dee-Ga Somapala is famous as a Commercial Artist,
Photographer, Tele-drama Director, Advertising Artist and Book layout
Artist.
