Raffealla brings Twisted Eye
Ruwini Jayawardana
Young Raffealla Fernando certainly has an eye for the unnatural. This
is evident when you browse through her photographs and paintings. The
21-year old will be showcasing an art and photography exhibition titled
Twisted Eye at the Lionel Wendt Gallery on October 3 and 4.
The old girl of St Bridget's Convent, Colombo 7, had held her first
solo exhibition when she was 14. She had showcased line art, oil
paintings, pencil drawings, pan drawings, glass paintings, ceramic
paintings and cartoon sketches at the event. She had exhibited her work
at several group exhibitions and won awards at leading art competitions.
One of her paintings is even on display at the Japanese Art Gallery.
Not limiting her talents to the art arena Raffealla had ventured into
the glamour sector too. She is the winner of Sri Lanka's up and coming
fashion designer of the year 2010 and the winner of the haute couture
evening wear segment and cocktail wear segment at the event. She
clinched the second runner up title at the Sunday Observer Fashion
Designer of the Year 2010 competitions and bagged the prize of the best
designer saree at the event.
She was the only young local designer to be invited to take part in
the NOLCHA New York Fashion Week which will be held in 2012.
"I graduated from the International Academy of Fashion designing. I
was also trained at the JCAD on jewellery designing. These helped me to
excel in disverse sectors," Raffealla said.
She had worked as a photographer at ETV - Vanguard Company for
maxa.lk.
