‘The UPFA victory at the upcoming LG polls is a forgone conclusion.
It is as certain as the rising sun. The people living within the
Dehiwala -Mt. Lavinia Municipal Council are not happy with the present
administration.
‘They are certainly expecting a change. The majority of people living
in the Municipal Council area, including UNPers, will vote for the UPFA
this time, UPFA mayoral candidate for the Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia Municipal
Council Kesarallal Gunasekara told the Daily News yesterday.
According to Gunasekara, the people are not happy with the present
administration and are eagerly waiting for a change. At present there is
no channel of communication between the MC and the tax payer.
‘It is the central government which provides large scale resources
for the MCs and other bodies. For example, the entire Dehiwala-Mt.
Lavinia MC spends around Rs. 50 million for road rehabilitation annually
but the central government offered nearly Rs. 200 million to
rehabilitate 19 roads, he said.
So the cordial relationship between the LG bodies and the central
government is essential for the benefit of the people. If one political
party holds power of the central government, the public should vote and
elect the same party to the LG bodies to establish smooth co-ordination
and a close relationship which leads to secure speedy development and
advancement in their living standard, he added.
