Delay in setting up professorial unit

The delay of establishing a professorial unit of the Medical Faculty and Allied Sciences of the Rajarata University has resulted in a series of problems for medical undergraduates, Rajarata University medical undergraduates said.

They were addressing the media yesterday in Colombo.

The professorial unit was to be opened at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital in last August, but the required staffers of the professorial unit have not been appointed.

According to the undergraduates, 222 nurses and 22 doctors have to be appointed for the unit. The Treasury has granted approval for only 150 nurses and 20 doctors.
