Disconnected water connections to be restored

Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has directed officials to connect all disconnected water connections of common places in the Colombo urban area to provide a good service to the public and rescue them from difficulties.

The minister also directed them not to disconnect certain connections in Colombo which have been earmarked for disconnection.

Several public places in the Colombo urban area have not paid water bills.

The authority had taken steps to disconnect all these water supply connections.

Some have been disconnected while others were to be disconnected soon.

Water connections of public institutions such as community halls, maternity clinics and free ayurvedic medical centres which did not pay water bills for a long time have been disconnected.

Until problems of these places are solved, the minister ordered the Water Supply and Drainage Board officials to continue supplying water, sources said.
