of DTET and all of five organization heads were present at this
ceremony.
The five new volunteers will be dispatched to five local communities
such as Badulla, Kalutara, Homagama, Kandy and Kelaniya, for which cover
many different fields for machinery, automobile, welding and Korean
language training.
They receive a formal qualification as KOVs (Korea Overseas
Volunteers) after OJT (On the Job Training) course.
From 1991, KOICA has implemented the volunteer programmes as well as
a development scheme for Sri Lanka.
The KOVs is a programme of the government of Korea aiming at
promoting technical manpower development and the transfer of advanced
technology through provision of technical assistance by deploying
volunteers to live and work together with local communities in the
developing world.
Sri Lanka, as one of the focusing cooperation countries of Korea, has
received over 450 volunteers in various fields such as environment,
rural development, ITC and education and culture. Currently, 85
volunteers are providing their services in many different regions in Sri
Lanka. The KOV programme not only enhances the human resource capacity
and socio-economic development in Sri Lanka but also helps to maintain a
good mutual relationship between two countries.
