One almost wonders if there is ever such an author who can detect
children's wishes and thoughts like Janaki Sooriyarachchi.
The charming young writer who is fondly known as Janaki Nanda among
countless children in Sri Lanka and abroad launched the first digital
storybook of the country at a simple function held at Mihilaka Hall on
September 17. Prof J B Dissanayake, Prof Kusuma Karunaratne, Dr Sudath
Damsinghe and many other well wishers graced this occasion.
Titled Twinklinka the story relates the tale of a beautiful doll who
comes to the toy shop hoping to go home with an enchanting mistress.
Though expensive everyone including the shopkeeper, his assistants and
the toys believe that Twinklinka will be bought immediately by a
customer. However Twinklinka decides to wait for her dream client. The
story flows through a number of unexpected incidents and teaches the
pretty doll what really matters in life. One aspect that many people do
not know about Janaki is that she is a gifted illustrator. She not only
pens the stories but also designs the illustrations of the books in her
own distinctive style. Therefore you can be sure that her books have her
own signature mark. She recently launched her 195th children's book.
Originally written in English the digital version Twinklinka is
available in English, Sinhala and Tamil. It is a Tikiri Publication. You
will be able to visit the site is you log onto to
