Korea trounce Sri Lanka at Asian Championship

Favourites Korea breezed past weaker and less experienced opponent Sri Lanka in straight sets in only 53 minutes in a Pool D match of the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship in Taiwan on Thursday.

Jung Dae Young starred for Korea with 10 points, followed by Kim Se Young with 8 and 23 year old Kim Yeon Koung and Han Song Yi with seven a piece. Sri Lanka were led by Dinesha Jayamaha (seven points) and Leena Somaratne (4).

Sri Lanka, with relatively less international match experiences, struggled to seize points from Korea. The first set ended 25-9.

The second and third sets saw Korea pull ahead from the beginning as Sri Lanka were not able to handle Korea’s massive attacks while Korea continued to impress the spectators with their all-round skills. They claimed the second set 25-11 and the third at 25-6, and won the game 3-0. YG
