Girl's body found

Yakkalamulla police found a body of a teenage girl wrapped in a bed sheet and dumped inside a cave at Naranwalawatta around 6.30 am on Wednesday.

The body was identified as that of Thanthriarachchige Prabodha Maduwanthie, 17, of Kananke Bazaar. She had been missing from home since August 21 according to a complaint lodged by her father to Kananke Police.

The body is lying at the Karapitiya hospital awaiting the autopsy. A boy who had a love affair with her is wanted for questioning in this connection. Police investigations are continuing.

Deadly knock

A pedestrian died after being knocked down by a private bus plying from Amandoluwa to Katunayake VTP garment factory near the Katunayake Police station around 6 a.m. on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Mella Thanthrige Sumith Perera, 43, of Liyanagemulla, Seeduwa. The alleged bus driver is in police custody. Katunayake Police are investigating.

Pedestrian dies in accident

A pedestrian knocked down by a van from Colombo to Kandy at Mirigama junction on the Kandy road was admitted to the Warakapola hospital around 5 am on Thursday.

He later succumbed to his injuries while being transferred in a critical condition to the Kegalle hospital.

The deceased was identified as Yodasinghe Rankoth Ihalagedara Ratnaseevali Yodasinghe, 35, a disabled soldier of Elamulla, Maturata. The van driver taken into police custody, was produced before the Thulhiriya Magistrate and released on bail.
