Shashni Kumari wins girls under 14 javelin throw

Rains continued to interfere with the Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletic
Championship organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association and
sponsored by the health drink Milo worked off for the second day at the
Bogambara Stadium, Kandy yesterday.
There were very heavy showers overnight and yesterday which made
ground conditions wet and muddy and the soggy conditions prevented most
of the track events being worked off on schedule.
Yesterday the organizers worked off most of the heats and some of the
finals late afternoon.
Since the conditions were not conducive for running, no records were
lowered in the track event finals.
The finals worked off yesterday were:
Girls under 14 javelin throw: 1. Shashni Kumari (Mahamaya Girls
College, Kandy) - 21.21 metres, 2. W A Maneesha (St Rita's Vidyalaya,
Wennappuwa) - 19.95 m, 3. W A Madmumali (Buddhist Ladies College,
Colombo) - 18.6 m.
Girls under 15 javelin throw: 1. E A N. Madushika (Holy Cross BV,
Gampaha) - 25.90 metres, 2. E A A Lakmali (Handapanagoda MV) 24.42m, 3.
G A Dilshani (Ave Maria Convent, Negombo) - 23.67 m.
Girls under 14 putt shot: 1. Ruyuri Wijesundera (Visakha Girls
College, Colombo) - 7.69 metres, 2. R A P P Ranabahu (Ratnavali BV,
Gampaha) - 6.82m, 3. Y Rashini Aseha Silva (Negombo International
School) - 6.68 m.
Boys under 15 javelin throw:
1. R D A Vidusanka (St Mary's College, Kegalle) - 42.55 metres, 2. G
G R M Dangolla (Sri Rahula College, Katugastota) - 42.13 m, 3. K A
Nissanka (St Benedict's College, Kotahena) - 41.65 metres.
Boys under 12 high jump: 1. S M Jayawardena (St Sebastian's College,
Moratuwa) - 1.37 metres, 2. D A R S Perera (St Sebastian's College,
Moratuwa) - 1.32 m, 3. M P P Perera (Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya)
- 1.32 m. (Both had equal distance).
