Minister warns SLMC

Higher Education Minister S.B.Dissanayake said that measures will be taken to dismiss the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) and appoint a new council if they make a decision against government policy regarding the private medical college in Malambe.

If the Medical Council takes a decision against the government policy, the Health Minister has the right to make a decision against the Sri Lanka Medical Council. The Health Minister has power to make a decision which is in keeping with the government policy, the minister added. “The Sri Lanka Medical Council Chairman is appointed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and they have no power to work against the government’s policy.

The Health Minister had taken a number of decisions against the medical council in the past when they were trying to work against the government policy, Minister Dissanayake said.
