Ransom kingping found in prison

Police found a Welikada prison inmate who was handling an organized ransom gang while being at the prison. The suspect with the support of his wife and a relative had conducted a number of ransom demanding cases throughout the country.

The suspect had pretended to be a tax collector and threatened to take legal action against the people for not paying tax. When he demanded ransoms to avoid legal action, businessmen had deposited money in bank accounts given by the suspect.

The bank accounts are said to have been registered under his wife's name, Police said.

Police found 25 mobile phones and 25 SIM cards with the suspect. The suspect was sentenced for a financial fraud and had been in jail for five years.
