The next stage of the "Sandun Arana National Programme" operating
under the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry was recently
launched under the guidance of Defence Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya
Rajapaksa. Under this stage, Sandalwood plants will be planted on the
three forces' camps.
According to the Red Data Book of the IUCN, Saldalwood is one of the
plants that is under the threat of extinction. The "Sandun Arana
National Programme" has taken the necessary steps to plant Sandalwood
plants in various suitable places to protect this valuable plant. Nearly
three hundred thousand plants have been planted under several projects
all over the country.
