Hakmana Water Supply Scheme to be augmented
Cabinet approval was granted for the augmentation of the Hakmana
Water Supply Scheme at a cost of Rs. 383.36 million, with funds to be
provided from 2011-2013. This is on a proposal by Water Supply and
Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena. .
Under this project, it is proposed to increase the pipe borne water
supply facilities to all 13 Grama Niladhari Divisions of the Hakmana
Pradeshiya Sabha area.
Sri Lanka to organize a side event concurrently with UN General
Assembly in New York
Cabinet approval was granted to organize a side event under the theme
'Young People in Development Agenda' concurrently with the 65th meeting
of the United Nations General Assembly scheduled to be held on September
22 on a proposal made by Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister
Dullas Alahapperuma.
The objectives of this event are to gain an opportunity to present
the concept of the World Youth Conference (2014) which is to be hosted
by Sri Lanka, to the global community; to crate an awareness among
various nations on youth activities of Sri Lanka; and to create
opportunity to share experience and knowledge on global youth
activities.
Facilities at John de Silva Memorial Theatre and National Arts
Gallery to be improved
Cabinet approved a proposal by Culture and Arts Minister T.B.
Ekanayaka, to renovate and develop cultural infrastructure of John de
Silva Memorial Theatre and the National Arts Galley (Jathika Kalabhavana)
premises at a cost of Rs. 322.7 million to provide better facilities to
the public.
187 MT of locally produced milk powder to be purchased for Thriposha
programme
Cabinet approved the purchasing of 187 MTs locally produced whole
milk powder, a main raw material used for Thriposha production, from
August 6 2011 up to December 31, 2011 at a cost of Rs. 100.79 million on
a proposal by Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena.
Government to establish diplomatic relations with Republic of
El-Salvador
Cabinet on a proposal by External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Pieris
has decided to establish diplomatic relations with the Republic of El
Salavador.
El Salvador, the smallest country in Central America, maintains
bilateral trade relations with Sri Lanka for the last five years and
trade imbalance is in favour of Sri Lanka. |
