Enumeration for electoral register, nearly complete
The enumeration of names of eligible persons to revise the electoral
register for 2011 by Grama Niladharis and special enumerators is nearing
completion, a statement issued by the Elections Commissioner Mahinda
Deshapriya said.
The enumeration by visiting all households commenced on June 1.
Persons displaced during the war period and those still unable to
provide information to the enumerator could now enquire from the Grama
Niladhari or from their District Elections Officer. They can obtain a
special form on which the required information can be provided.
This special arrangement will be effective from September 1 to
November 30. The special form should be completed and sent to the
relevant District Election office on or before November 30, 2011. It is
also expected to launch an additional programme during the period
commencing from October 1 and ending on October 15, 2011 to enumerate
the names of eligible persons still living among displaced persons in
refugee camps. The usual period set apart for filling claims and
objections under section 14 of the Registration of Electors Act No. 44
of 1980 will also be operative from November 2 to November 30, 2011. Any
eligible person who has not been enumerated could submit his own claim
during this period or on behalf of another person living in his
household. |
