SLN in joint staff level talks
The joint staff level talks between the Sri Lankan and Indian Navies
began at Navy Headquarters on September 7 and will continue till
tomorrow. A wide range of issues of bilateral importance will be
discussed to strengthen the friendly ties between the Navies of the two
neighbouring countries.
The Indian Navy delegation is led by Rear Admiral P. Murugesan, the
Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Foreign Cooperation) of the Indian Navy
of six members. On arrival, the head of the Indian delegation made a
courtesy call on the Navy Commander Vice Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake.
The Sri Lankan Navy delegation consisting of ten members is led by
Rear Admiral Jayantha Perera, the Director General Operations of the Sri
Lanka Navy.
The delegates will focus on operational and training as well as
logistics and technical matters concerning the two navies. They will
also share views on preventive measures to curb potential threats of
drug trafficking, arms and human smuggling in Palk Bay and Palk Straits
to enhance maritime security. |
