Underworld kingpin shoots himself

Underworld kingpin Kalu Thushara alias Sanchiarachchige Kalu Thushara died yesterday after he shot himself accidentally in Grandpass.

According to police sources, Kalu Thushara had taken a machine gun and aimed at police officers who encountered him while they were heading for Grandpass. The Police said that Thushara was talking to two persons when they saw him.

Thushara had aimed his gun at the police officers when he saw them at a distance. The police officers had tried to take the gun into their custody.

The underworld figure who has allegedly been involved in a number of criminal activities had shot himself during the melee.

He died on admission to the National Hospital, Colombo. Police found a magazine in his possession.

The Police also found another gun which he dropped to the ground.
