KOICA helps farming technology development

University of Colombo Institute for Agro-Technology and Rural Science (UNIARS) was presented 2011 Ag-Biz Award by the National Agribusiness Council at the 6th annual Ag-exhibition recently for its significant contribution to Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector improvement.

The UNIARS’s participation in this award initiated by KOICA farming technology expert Professor Kim Jae Ho intended to make the public aware of a successful case of Colombo University extension services to bring academic knowledge into practical field work through UNIARS. The newly established UNIARS focuses its research and development on three areas such as tissue culture, banana development, ICT-based farmer education, and rural entrepreneurship development.
