Minister moots setting up of committee

Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Development Minister Susil Premajayantha proposed setting up of a committee comprising provincial political leadership, religious dignitaries, the Governor and Commander of the Armed Forces in the North, including high ranking security officials and activists in the civil society, to defuse the unrest and bring in peace and tranquility to the people of the North due to rumours of suspicious characters.

He made this proposal at a meeting at the Jaffna District Secretariat attended by high ranking State officials, Security personnel, religious dignitaries and civil society activists recently.

The meeting was subsequent to presentation of facts by Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister Douglas Devananda to the President.
