Special bus service for women

Arrangements have been made to launch new special bus services for women on main routes in the Western Province.

Transport Minister Kumara Welgama while launching the special bus service for women from Moratuwa to Pettah, said this bus service will be beneficial specially for working women.

The new special bus service will make two trips on the 100 route in the morning and evening from Moratuwa to Pettah and back. It leaves Moratuwa daily at 6.50 am to Pettah while the return journey commences from Pettah at 4.45 pm to Moratuwa.

He said four new special bus services will commence in four bus routes including Pettah-Kaduwela, Pettah-Negombo, Pettah-Gampaha and Pettah-Godagama shortly.

"The women's special bus service from Pettah to Kottawa is successfully being operated due to a demand from female passengers in the area," he said.

"The bus carries the name board 'women only'. This will provide a solution to the harassment that women undergo in buses," he added.
