Algeria ignores Gaddafi plea for entry
‘He is staying in a Libya-Algeria border town’:
ALGERIA: Fallen Libyan dictator Moamer Gaddafi has attempted to
negotiate with Algerian authorities to enter the country from a border
town he is staying in, the El-Watan daily reported in its on-line
edition Wednesday.
Gaddafi has been on the run since rebel forces overran the Libyan
capital Tripoli a week ago.
Citing sources close to the Algerian president, the francophone
newspaper reported that the former strongman has “tried to reach
(Algerian) President Abdelaziz Bouteflika by telephone but he has
refused to take the call.”
The report said Gaddafi was hiding out in the border town of Ghadames
with family members awaiting permission to cross into Algeria where his
wife, two sons and a daughter have already made their way.
“It’s not the first time that Kadhafi and his emissaries have tried
to make contact with the Algerian president,” the newspaper said. AFP |
