Measures to uplift vocational training

The Youth Affairs and Skills Development Ministry has taken measures to increase the amount of middle level engineers by expanding training programmes, said Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma.

According to the international standard it is necessary to have five middle level engineers per engineer.

But Sri Lanka has only one middle level engineer per engineer.

It is also necessary to have 20 technicians per engineer.

Hence it is necessary to increase the number of middle level engineers and technicians to meet the demand, he said.

The minister also said that the President Mahinda Rajapaksa always encourages us to enhance the quality of our trainings and uplift the standard of the vocational training sector.

There are 18 institutions presently running under the ministry.

The main responsibility of the ministry is to develop the vocational and technical training sector by producing skilled labour within four years.
