Vegetable prices decline

The price of vegetables has declined significantly with the arrival of Jaffna vegetables to the Colombo market, a spokesman for the Pettah Importers Wholesale Association said.

The wholesale price of some vegetables had declined significantly.

The spokesman said that this is the harvest yielding period in the Jaffna district and there is a growing demand for Jaffna vegetables.

The Jaffna vegetable harvest had arrived at the market by end of August, he said.

At present upcountry vegetables such as carrot, beetroot, knokhol, cabbage, green chillies were in short supply in the wholesale market, he pointed out.

Jaffna vegetables such as potatoes, grams, chillies, dhal, onions, garlic, green pea, brinjals, ladies fingers, snakegoured, wetakolu, kekiri and pumpking are available in plenty at reasonable prices.
