UPFA General Secretary Minister Susil Premajayantha yesterday

said that the UPFA would record a historic victory this time.
He made this observation at a press conference, the first of a series
to introduce the Colombo Municipal Council UPFA candidates.
The minister said that the UPFA secured 205 seats out of the 234 at
the first round of the local government elections while the UNP could
secure only nine.
He added that the UPFA secured 45 seats out of 65 during the second
round of elections while the UNP could secure none. He said there are 23
seats in the impending election and challenged the UNP to win them.
Premajayantha also said that the UPFA has prepared a strong list of
candidates, representing the diversity of Colombo as Colombo is unique
and consists of all major communities in equal number.
The minister added that candidates from 12 political parties are
contesting under UPFA banner, while former ministers, former deputy
mayors, former parliamentarians, former councillors, professionals,
academics, experienced persons in the international arena and candidates
representing all races and religions are included in the list.
He added that a Tamil woman, a Muslim woman and two Sinhala women are
also included in the list of candidates. |
