Buddha statue sellers arrested

Ten suspects attempting to sell a Buddha statue worth several
millions of rupees were arrested by Matugama Police on Wednesday around
6 p.m.
The statue weighing over 13 kilograms is believed to have been found
from an excavation site in Palindanuwara. The suspects are from Matugama,
Kurunegala, Gampaha, Dehiwela and Lathpandura areas.
Drunk drivers face the music

Panadura Magistrate and Additional District Judge R S A Dissanayake
imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on two accused who pleaded guilty to the
charge of driving vehicles under the influence of liquor. Both accused
do not possess driving licence.
The Magistrate also sentenced them to three months imprisonment
suspended for five years.
RI for murderer

Panadura Provincial High Court Judge Amal Thilakaratne sentenced an
accused in a murder case to two-years rigorous imprisonment and imposed
a fine of Rs 10,000 on him when the accused pleaded guilty to the charge
of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Passing out parade
The passing out parade of 109 solders who completed the Amateur
Training Course of the 3rd Army Services Regiment took place at the
Tissawewa Camp.
Spectacles' theft case put off

The Kollupitiya Police produced a suspect who is alleged to have
stolen spectacles worth over Rs 1.3 million from a leading optical
store, before the Colombo Fort Magistrate.
Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Lanka Jayaratne
issued summons to the second, third and fourth suspects. After the
submissions were made by the Police, the judge put off further hearing
for November 24.
Eid-Ul-Fitr prayers at Galle Face Green
Eid-Ul-Fitr festival prayers organized by the Memon Association of
Sri Lanka will be held on Eid-Ul-Fitr festival day at 8 am at the Galle
Face Green.
In case of rain, prayers will take place at the Memon Association
Hall at No 320/1, Galle Road, Colombo 3.

An Ifthar ceremony organised by the Sri Lanka Islamic Society (SLIS)
will be held today at 6.00 pm at the SLIS Secretariat, Borella, Colombo.

Prize giving, Ifthar
A prize giving and Ifthar ceremony organized by Hidayathul Wildan
Quran Madharasa, Kokila Road, Wellawatte, Colombo will be held tomorrow
at 4.30 pm at the Madharasa premises. Vettri FM Radio will broadcast
live the Ifthar programme from 6.20 pm to 6.35 pm.
