Polls on October 8

Local Government elections for the remaining 23 bodies will be held on October 8, Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said yesterday.

Nominations closed yesterday at noon. Elections will be held for 17 Municipal Councils, one Urban Council and five Pradeshiya Sabhas.

The first phase of the Local Government elections was held in March while the second phase postponed due to legal issues, was held in July.
