Lyceum, Nugegoda cagers win ‘B’ Division title

Lyceum International School, Nugegoda played an excellent final match
against Ananda College, Colombo to clinch the boys under-15 ‘B’ Division
Basketball Champion Trophy 2010 at the Police Park basketball court on
Monday evening.

Lyceum players were very strong in both attack and defense. They did
not allow Anandians to open their account till Lyceum scored consecutive
16 points in the first quarter. Viren Kavisha who was adjudged the most
valuable player of the tournament maintained a superb record through out
the tournament played a fierce final and scored 28 points on behalf of
the winners. His team mate Yusuf Farook was picked as the best offensive
player for his contribution of 22 points in the final match. The best
defensive player award also went on to a Lyceum player, Tishan Moondhu
who scored 14 points.
Ananda captain Dilanka Dilshan Jayarathna fought a solitary battle
and collected 27 points out of their total 33 points.
Lyceum team defeated their opponents with a huge margin of 48 points
in the end. Lyceum players blocked the Ananda attack from the half court
margin with a man to man defense where the losers found difficult to
advance the ball beyond three point line.
Winners posted a 39 point lead at the half time stage as the score
board displayed 52-13. In the end of the first quarter Anandians were
lagging behind 28-5 points. Lyceum players never allowed Anandians to
make inroads to the game and dominated the match from the beginning.
Winners registered 54 points lead in the end of the third quarter
(74-20) and folded up the match scoring 81-33 points.
