Dengue cases top 16,100
Police officers educated on dengue eradication :

A special meeting headed by Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa
will be held on August 26 to educate all police officers on dengue
eradication.
The Defence Ministry has pledged full support towards the National
Dengue Control programme.
Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena thanked the Defence Secretary
for his support especially with regard to the removal of solid waste,
Health Ministry media officer W M D Vanninayake said.
According to the Health Ministry Epidemiology Unit, 16,191 dengue
cases had been reported from all parts of the country by August 22. The
highest number of dengue cases, 6,372 had been reported from the Colombo
district.
The Colombo Municipal Council area, had recorded 2,167 Dengue
Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases.
The other parts of the Colombo district recorded 4,205 dengue cases,
Gampaha district recorded 2,455 cases, Kalutara district recorded 878,
Batticaloa recorded 675 and Kurunegala district recorded 634.
During the past 22 days, 1,121 dengue cases had been reported from
all parts of the country.
Last month, 4,631 dengue cases were reported from all parts of the
country.
The Health Ministry requests the public to seek immediate medical
treatment for any type of fever. Special care should be taken on
children with fever.
Bed rest is a must even after the fever goes down because dengue can
turn up again after a few days. Dengue Shock Syndrome or Dengue
Hemorrhagic Fever can be fatal if not treated properly on time,
Vanninayake added.
