Carey take under 16 rugby title

Carey College, Colombo clinched the Cup Championship of the Western Province under 16 segment two rugby tournament by beating Lalith Athulathmudali MV, Ratmalana by 12 points (one goal, one try) to nil in the final played at the Royal College sports complex yesterday after leading 7-0 at the breather.

Kushan Perera (one) and Harshana Peiris (one) scored the tries for Carey with Sahan Sarathchandra adding the extra points to one try.

Carey beat Piliyandala Central by 21-0 while Lalith Athulathmudali MV overcame S Thomas’ Prep School, Kollupitiya by 17-12 in extra time in the semi-finals.

S Thomas’ Prep School, Kollupitiya bagged the Plate Championship by beating Piliyandala Central by 10 points (two tries) to nil.

The Bowl Championship was won by St Peter’s College, Colombo ‘B’ who defeated St Sebastian’s College, Kandana by 5 points (one try) to nil.

Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya clinched the Shield Championship by overcoming Asoka MV by 10 points (two tries) to 5 (one try) in the final.
