IRS to broaden business with Lanka

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) is seeking to broaden its
horizons in Sri Lanka with an aim to relive the past glory. Sri Lanka
and India has traditionally shared historical ties and close
neighbouring relations. The growing economy and conducive environment
need to be exploited in expanding business opportunities, Indian
Register of Shipping Chairman Capt J C Anand said.

The rapid economic development taking place in Sri Lanka provides
exciting opportunities to IRS through its two divisions, Indian Register
of Shipping Inspection Services (IRSIS) and Indian Register Quality
Systems IRQS), he said.
These two divisions will be a partner in Sri Lanka’s progress to
prosperity by rending services of high quality in an efficient and
effective manner, he said.
The IRS is an internationally recognized Ship Classification Society
and achieved member status of International Association of
Classification Societies in June last year. It provides independent
third party inspection services to land based industries for their
machinery, plants, equipment and components though IRSIS.
The IRSIS provides services to a wide spectrum of industry ranging
from general engineering, oil and gas, power and energy, infrastructure,
civil construction projects. Its service scope includes services ranging
from inspection to complete project management.
The IRS provides system qualification services through its department
IRQS to international standards including ISO 9001 (accredited for
Quality Management System certification for 35 different sectors), TS
16949 (Automotive Sector), ISO 14001 (Environment Management System
accredited for 28 sectors) OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety
Assessment series for 25 sectors).
The IRS set up its first overseas office in Sri Lanka and now seeks
to further its close relations in the industrial and quality fields. |
