Lanka will march forward to a new era - Indian HC

Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Ashok K Kantha yesterday said
that the Indian government will contribute to the reconciliation process
and the reconstruction drive in the North and East of Sri Lanka and also
continue to assist in all future endeavours in this regard.

He made this observation at the ceremony to celebrate the 65th
Independence Day of India held at India House and wished that "beautiful
Sri Lanka would march forward to build a new era".
The Indian High Commissioner further stated that Sri Lanka and India
are strengthening ties as a result of many reasons as both countries
have shared interests.
He added that the two countries destinies are interlocked as they are
the closest neighbours.
He added that the Indian government is interested in assisting Sri
Lanka which is emerging from three decades of conflict. He added that an
Indian company entered into an agreement to establish a 500 MW coal
power plant in Sampur in Trincomalee which is going to be the highest
Indian investment in Sri Lanka.
India is also assisting in the removal of wrecks from the
Kankasanthurei harbour.
India also agreed to construct a fully fledged hospital in Dikoya. He
added that these developments would strengthen the bedrock of
relationship between Sri Lanka and India.
Kantha also stated that this growing recognition between the two
countries was a result of the leadership and people of Sri Lanka.
