They emerge tug o' war champs

Gampaha District Men's team and Urban Youth Women's team emerged champions at the Tug o' war event held recently at the Hyde Park Ground, Colombo in connection with the 23rd National Youth Sports Festival 2011.

This is the first time that Tug-of-War events included in a National Level Sports Festival in Sri Lanka sports history. As the Tug-of-War event to be included in the Olympic events list in the future the National Youth Services Council had decided to include Tug-of-War for the National Sports Festival programme. The Chairman, Director General of the NYSC Lalith Piyum Perera told Daily News. 13 men's and 12 women's teams including the North and East Provinces participated at the tourney.

The results of the tournament

Men: Champions Gampaha District team, 1st runner-up Galle district and 2nd runner-up Kurunegala district team.

Women: Champions - Colombo Urban Youth Team, 1st runner-up Ratnapura District team and 2nd runner-up Gampaha district team.
