A scene from Bambara Walalla

Athula Liyanage's maiden movie Bambara Walalla (Whirlwind) won the Best Cinematography Feature award at the 2011 Action On Film (AOF) International Film Festival VII held in Pasadena, California.

Camera director Thishula Deepa Thambawita bagged the award after competing with films such as Joshua Tree, Pimp, Au Pair Kansas, Far Away Eyes and Zombie Drugs. Bambara Walalla deals with the change that individuals undergo when faced with life and death. It won the Special Jury's Remi Award (Gold) for Best Cinematography and the Special Jury's Remi Award for Best Direction at the 43rd annual World Fest-Houston International Film Festival last year.

It also clinched the Best Feature Film Award at the SAARC Film Festival.

The AOF festival showcases and felicitates the best work in drama, comedy, documentary, action and feature films in the world. Around 500 films were submitted for the event this year.

The AOF International Film Festival VII was held from July 22 to 30.
