The report titled "Humanitarian Operation Factual Analysis" published
by the Defence Ministry is timely and contains a detailed account as to
why the Humanitarian Operation conducted by the Armed Forces was just,
said Senior Attorney-at-Law Upali Denaratne.
The report serves the necessary purpose of clearing all doubts as to
the necessity of the Humanitarian Operation conducted under the
unwavering political leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The report reveals the barbarity with which the LTTE conducted its
terror-campaign killing thousands of innocent men, women and children as
well as numerous religious dignitaries and moderate Tamil and Sinhala
political leadership.
Senaratne said that together with the invaluable documentary titled
"Lies Agreed Upon" the Sri Lankan Government has come up with a response
that should debunk much of the false accusations and harmful propaganda
carried out by elements that are determined to tarnish the image of Sri
Lanka.
The effort made and the commitment shown by Defence Secretary
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, is praiseworthy. In the midst of mounting malicious
propaganda Defence Secretary Rajapaksa's attempt is not only an attempt
to defend himself, but more importantly, his Armed Forces and the entire
country, Senaratne said.
The international community should take a more objective and
impartial stand on the malicious and unsubstantiated accusations
levelled against the country, as External Affairs Minister Prof. G L
Peiris pointed out, Senior Attorney Senaratne added.
