Comedian puts US debt crisis into rap
‘ We ain’t got no qualms dropping $100 bills and
million dollar bombs’:
US: American comedian Remy Munasifi pokes fun at the current
financial impasse in the US with his ‘Raise the Debt Ceiling’ rap, which
has become an internet hit. Wearing a track suit, black cap, and
dollar-sign medallion, Munasifi tosses dollars around as he raps: “$14
trillion in debt, but yo we ain’t go no qualms.
Dropping $100 bills and million dollar bombs.”
He continues: “Social Security surplus? Oh guess what? It’s gone!”.
“I got my hands on everything like Dominique Strauss-Kahn.”The
part-time rapper joined forces with libertarian magazine Reason to
create the video in which he urges the US government to resolve the debt
crisis that threatens to downgrade the dollar’s credit rating and
endanger millions of routine payments to Americans.
Following a Republican decision to postpone a vote on raising the
debt ceiling, Congress now only has four days to meet a deadline set by
Timothy Geithner, the Treasury Secretary, to raise the national
borrowing limit or risk defaulting.
