Ruhuna clinch Twenty20 title

An inspired Ruhuna side led by Mahela Udawatta clinched their maiden Provincial Twenty20 title over reigning champs Wayamba in an absolute cracker of a game to win in a super over . The game was tied when Wayamba chasing 199 ended up with 198 after veteran Indika De Saram hit a six when Wayamba needed seven off the last ball.

Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala dominated in the 20th Milo Schools’ Netball Championships by entering the finals in all four age categories. The final round of the event commenced on Saturday and the finals and consolation finals will be played today at the Uyanwatte Stadium, Matara.

Ton-up Bell reprieved in run-out controversy

Ian Bell’s maiden Test hundred against India batted England into a strong position before he was given a sporting reprieve after seemingly throwing his wicket away on Sunday. After a chaotic climax to the second sesssion of the third day of the second Test at Trent Bridge, and some tea interval discussions, Bell was 137 not out in an England second innings total of 254 for three — a lead of 187 runs.
