Holy Family Convent enter four finals

Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala dominated in the 20th Milo Schools’ Netball Championships by entering the finals in all four age categories. The final round of the event commenced on Saturday and the finals and consolation finals will be played today at the Uyanwatte Stadium, Matara.

Familians were leading from the beginning at the under-18 semi-final match against Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya never let their opponents to overcome them at any stage of the game. They were five points ahead at the half time stage (14/9) later increased the lead in the second half with back to back goals where the rivals failed to counter attack.

Kalutara Vidyalaya fought hard but could not succeed in securing their ring, went down to the strong Familians in the end (31/20). Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo found no difficulty in beating Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala (33/16) in the other under-18 semi-final and will meet Familians today in the final. Vishakians took the early advantage with their aggressive attack and registered a nine point lead at the first half (61/7). They were very good in defence as Devans struggled to advance the ball with their passes.

Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala will meet Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya in the under-18 consolation final while Musaeus College, Colombo will compete with Hillwood Girls School, Kandy for the under-16 third place. The under-14 consolation final will be played between Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya and High School, Kandy while the Holy Family Convent, Kalutara will fight against Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya in the under-12 consolation final.

Under-18 semi-finals Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo beat Maliyadeva Balika, Kurunegala - 33/16 Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala beat Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya - 31/21.

Under-16 semi finals Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya beat Museus College, Colombo - 20/13 Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala ‘A’ beat Hillwood Girls School, Kandy - 23/17

Under-14 semi-finals Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala ‘A’ beat Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya - 18/12 Maliyadeva Balika, Kurunegala beat High School, Kandy - 10/6.
