No flood threat

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) yesterday said that the inclement weather which affected Nuwara Eliya and Batticaloa districts had normalized and people have moved back to their homes. A DMC spokesman for the Nuwara Eliya district said that the two camps which provided shelter for affected people were closed with the normalization of situation.

The DMC spokesman for the Batticaloa district said that heavy rains and high wind persisted had been normalized and there was no fresh report of property damages or people being affected from heavy rains.

Meanwhile the Meteorology Department duty forecaster Gayana Hendavitarana predicted that intermittent showers will be experienced in South Western region including Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and Galle and Matara today.

She said that the maximum rain fall was experienced in Hiniduma during 24 hours ending from yesterday noon.
